Our Tencel comes from Somelos in Portugal, a family-owned company founded in 1958. The Tencel fibers, certified by Lenzing, come from wood cellulose dissolved in a non-toxic solvent. This solvent is recovered at 99.77%, making Tencel production a closed-loop process. The pine, eucalyptus, and bamboo forests used for Tencel production are specifically planted and are certified sustainable. These species also do not require intensive irrigation. All of these reasons make Tencel a low-impact fiber.
Why did we choose oxford weave? Originally used for shirts, it is one of the most durable weaves. It is also distinguished by the softness it brings to the finished material and its ease of maintenance. It is hypoallergenic and breathable.
